If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It

Pardon me while I get on my soap box!  For the last 25 years I have used Delta Ceramcoat acrylic paint for all my painting projects!  Now for some unknown reason (at least unknown to me) they have changed not only the packaging, but also evidently the paint within the bottle!!!  Big mistake!!!  They ruined a perfectly good product!
It is kind of like the story of the Goldilocks and the Three Bears...Apple Barrel is too thin...Folk Art is too thick...Delta Ceramcoat is (make that was) just right!  What's a girl (Okay, I used that word lightly.) to do?
So far I've scoured the stores and internet for any paint in the old package.  That's the bottle with the rainbow on the label rather than the one with the colorful flower.  Fortunately, I've found a few, but when that is gone...I'm going to be in a pickle!
Any of you other painters/artists have any suggestions?  Please let me know!

  1. Poor girl! If I run across any at any time, I'll grab a few for you. I don't do the detail work you do, so I'm content with the other two brands.

  2. OH NOOOOOO..haven't seen that in our area ...yet. The 2 big craft stores we have are Michael's & AC Moore.....AC Moore has pulled both the DECO ART Americana and Delta lines and replaced it with JUNK. Michael's carries both but limited selections of colors....I'm staring to panic too......I won't use the cheap stuff.........it shows in the quality of your work. Maybe all us painters need to write to Delta and Americana and ask what's up with this? I hope our craft does not become a "lost Art". If you haven't already....get on your broom and fly on over and enter my give away!

  3. I was just reading your post and had to tell ya..I thought I was the only one disappointed by the change. In fact back when I noticed Artist's Club stopped selling it, my local Ben Franklin's display dwindled down to just 2 little racks and then when Walmart discontinued Ceramcoat I emailed the company. I got a reply from a Customer Service Rep. saying because of the decline in decorative painters that stores have had to cut back on their product as it is no longer profitable to sell! She said that Michaels, Joann's and Hobby Lobby still carry full lines.. but our local Joann's only has a small rack. She said there is a place online www.shopcraftworld.com that sells a complete line of Ceramcoat, or the phone number to that place is is 800-654-6114 if you need to call. I haven't been to look as the site or their prices but in talking to another painter friend out in PA, she said she noticed that several colors have been discontinued too! Have you noticed that in the Artist's Club magazine there isn't a variety of painters like there use to be? I have stacks of books from artist's that you never hear anymore from? Thank heavens for the ones who are still making books and coming up with new designs!

  5. I hear ya!! When I heard about Delta paint...well, I wanted to cry! That is the paint I love. I use it all the time. Most of the colors are just perfect.

I agree, if something ain't broken, don't fix it. Why would they mess with a good thing.

I have noticed that some of the packaging is the same, but inside is junk, especially burnt umber! Ummm can we say reddish. Yuck.

Good luck finding something comparable. I know I haven't found anything yet.

    Merry Wishes to you.
